Our story
ABA VELA is a family-owned yacht charter company based in Split, Croatia. Since 1996, we have focused on well-maintained sailing yachts, direct local service and a practical, personal approach that helps guests start their charter week smoothly from ACI Marina Split.
Our sailing roots go back generations, including time on a ten-meter family sailing yacht dating back to 1935. ABA VELA started with two boats and grew step by step, but one thing has stayed constant: maintenance standards come first. We keep our yachts in strong condition, we prepare them carefully for each handover, and we avoid promotional materials on board so guests enjoy more privacy during the week.

LEGACY EUMINIA REVIEWSMeet the team
The same local team who answers booking questions, prepares the yachts, manages check-in and supports guests during the week works directly from Split.
Duško founded ABA VELA in 1996 and built the company around a long family connection to sailing. His persistence shaped the business from the beginning, and it reflects the same discipline that took him to a bronze medal in rowing at the 1980 Olympics.
Tonka leads the company with direct communication and practical oversight. She speaks five languages, which helps guests sort out booking details, arrival questions and charter logistics clearly before they reach Split.
Jure has spent his life around boats and has more than 30 years of charter experience. As base manager, he oversees daily operations, yacht readiness and the practical issues that need to be solved quickly in a working marina.
Vinka keeps booking details and guest assistance under control. She is known for being thorough, reliable and easy to work with, and she helps make the booking process and charter week run in a calm, organized way.
Nataša manages cleaning standards during the busiest turnaround day of the week. She coordinates the team firmly and fairly, making sure each yacht is clean, ready and consistent with the standard guests expect at handover.
He handles check-in with patience and a practical eye for detail. He helps guests understand the yacht properly at handover and looks for small improvements that make the boat and the charter experience work better.
Our Split base
Our office is right next to Pier D in ACI Marina Split, and all ABA VELA sailing yachts are moored directly there, which makes luggage transfer faster and check-in more practical on arrival day. Booking a bareboat or skippered charter with ABA VELA means the office, your yacht, marina facilities, parking, restaurants and provisioning are all within walking distance at ACI Marina Split. The old town is close by while you wait for handover, and starting from Split's central harbour gives you more usable sailing time toward nearby islands.
ACI Marina Split and Pier D
All ABA VELA yachts are moored directly at Pier D in front of our office, which keeps handover simple and helps guests get underway quickly from Split.
Support during your charter
ABA VELA provides 24/7 charter assistance with direct contact to the local Split team. If you need help during the week, you contact the people who know the base, the yachts and the local operating area.
Since 2022, ABA VELA has also been an official partner of the EmergenSea assistance network. That adds a wider technical-support structure along the Adriatic while keeping ABA VELA as the first local point of contact for guests sailing from Split.
If a problem comes up, support can cover technical issues, mechanical breakdowns, towing, battery failure, grounding incidents, fuel delivery and other practical assistance at sea. The aim is simple: direct contact, clear coordination and dependable help when it is needed during the charter week.
Fleet care and maintenance guides
Some of our older technical articles remain useful because they come directly from real charter-fleet servicing work. These two guides focus on systems that still appear regularly on sailing yachts.
